3.58 million tones of rice exported in nine months

Vietnam exported 3.58 million tones of rice in the first nine months of 2008, including 373,000 tones in September alone, announced the Vietnam Food Association on September 22.

The increase of exported volume was resulted from flexible management, further demand from Africa, Middle East and the recovery of several new markets.

Together with active collection of rice for export, reservation and food security, member businesses of the Vietnam Food Association are speeding up the distribution progress set for in September and October. In addition, they are also focusing on the negotiation and signing of new contracts.

Rice exporters are striving to export 1-1.2 million tones of rice in the fourth quarter so as to reach the target of 4.6 million tones in 2008.
